Melanie Husk

Melanie Husk is the Founder and President of MEL Consulting CO. She has worked for some of the best firms on Wall Street, including Legg Mason, Goldman Sachs, and Raymond James. During much of her career, she partnered with financial advisors to interpret the markets by providing research and insight. Additionally, she educated them on investment solutions and portfolio construction. Her strong knowledge of traditional and alternative asset classes allowed her to build risk-managed, globally diversified strategies to address specific needs, such as replacing an income stream or providing for downside protection.
In 2012, Mel became an Investment Adviser Representative so that she could follow her true passion of working directly with investors. She expanded her vision to look at a client’s total picture and incorporated comprehensive financial planning into her services. In this role, she partnered with high net worth clients and business owners (average client account $1.5 mill) to personally advise them on complex financial decisions. Additionally, she tailored customized portfolios to address their unique needs. By acting as a fee-only advisor, Melanie was able to put her client’s best interests first.
This past Spring, Mel was excited to leave Corporate America (and the old school, good ole’ boys club) to start her own financial planning practice. She is now exclusively focused on helping GEN X & Millennials and entrepreneurs create wealth since she is one too. By paying off debt and saving for the future, together we CAN be financially independent!
Mel graduated from Penn State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics. She currently holds FINRA Series 7, 65 designations, and the Illinois Life/Health insurance licence. Active in the community, Melanie serves on the Greater Chicago Food Depository Associate board, the Women In Tech Founders board, Fem City Chicago board, and the Chicago Yacht Club Membership Committee. Originally from Pittsburgh, Melanie resides in Chicago with her husband Erik and their yellow lab, Nala. Her interests include playing in the sun, whether it’s sailing, boating, reading, gardening, or running along Lake Michigan. She is currently working towards her Captain’s license.
