Ever walk into an interview and feel like you’re just repeating your job history along with your 3 best traits and 3 habits you could improve over and over? Towards the end of the forty-five minutes you just hope you stood out over the other candidates and walk out of the conference room unsure if you impressed them enough. Or have you ever sat at your desk staring at your computer hoping time would tick-by faster so you can clock out on time? February’s Breakfast & Conversations brought KT Speetzen, Creator an CEO of Mother Cluckers Comedy, to enlighten us on how comedy can help get you your dream job and even make us better employees

We learned how taking a comedy break during the workday has been scientifically proven to increase productivity, work satisfaction, and happiness, all while having fun along the way. KT also provided us a small set of tools to make us better story tellers that outline our best traits to future employers, connect with clients, or show authenticity during a presentation. Plus we also celebrated our venue partner, evolveHer space opening at this event! It was the perfect place to grab coffee, chat with other creative ladies, and laugh really really loudly.

KT had each of us think of 5 positive traits we would want to highlight during an interview, a client or guests at an event. A few examples:

  • Cheerful

  • Conscientious

  • Resourceful

  • Humorous

  • Excited

After we picked our traits, we had to come think of three funny/or weird things that happened to us in the last few weeks. The funny or weird thing could be a small interaction or just something your kids said to you during breakfast. Once we had our 3 funny/weird stories, we shared them with a partner in the group to decide which of the three we would want to continue to develop. When we had chosen our story, we had to write a paragraph or two detailing what happened while subtly highlighting our 5 positive traits.

As an example, KT shared her story which hilariously involved the Annual Car Show and wearing a Dora the Explorer costume. Just from this description alone you can tell KT’s story hit all the right notes and had the group in tears laughing.
