01. Summarize your life in a few sentences

I am a wife and mother to be, who grew up the oldest of 3 kids with loving and supportive parents. I loved school, sang everywhere I went and was a ballet dancer. I was a typical high achiever, which caused some health problems in my early twenties.

02. Tell us about your education background.

After high school, I participated in a leadership program for a year. From there, I moved to Sydney, Australia and completed a 2 year certificate program as a double major in vocals and dance. Upon returning home, I worked as the Creative Arts Director for a non-profit for 8 years, during which I went back to college part time and just recently completed the “Organizational Leadership & Development” program.

03. How did you start your business?

I started my business in a very unconventional way! After having made some major shifts in my life in my mid-twenties, I resigned from my position. I took a couple months off to reflect on what I wanted to do next, and decided that starting my own business would be the best move to make.

04. What inspired you as a creative woman?

Many years of my life were spent organizing other creative people, and being the event planner and project manager for hundreds of events. My motivation was to help others rediscover awe in everything that was created.

05. What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made on your job or on your business, and how did you get through it?

The biggest mistake I made with my business was to focus on creating new services and courses before I had built any type of audience. I was working on it slowly, but I wish I had focused on building a strong foundation for my community earlier in my business journey. I took the leap and launched my Facebook community this fall, and so far, I am loving it!

06. If you can build a million dollar company, what would it be?

Modern Planner is going to be a million dollar company some day! I have such huge dreams for helping people learn how to plan and I know that it is absolutely possible!

07. Walk us through your day as the Owner and Managing Director of Modern Planner

My recent daily schedule has looked a little different, as I am 4 months pregnant! There have been some mid-afternoon naps, some days I have slept in, and I worked soooooo slow for a few months. However, I typically work from 9-5pm in my home office. Because I plan my day the night before, I just jump right in to my first task of the day. I use an A/B calendar, where my A week is for client work, and my B week is for content. That helps this introvert have a bit of a break from talking to people all day 🙂 I have a different schedule for most days of the week, so not too much is the same – keeps things exciting!

08. What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

When I receive a testimonial from a client that thanks me for helping them change their life – that is by far the biggest highlight I could ever ask for!

09. Where or what do you think you will be/do in the next 5 years?

I would like to be running Modern Planner part-time while I raise my children. I will also be supporting my husband with his design studio, and we would love to travel for 1 month of the year as a family.

10. Share a quote/advice that you’d like to tell the 25 year-old you …

I would like to tell my 25-year old self “You are important. You are valuable. And your health is not something to be taken for granted. Be kind to yourself, and learn what you love, and then embrace it with everything you have.”
